Hello 2021

Goodbye 2020, what an awful year you were. There were some bright sparks here and there, sure. But on the whole, I am happy to see the back of you.

Sadly, the start of the incoming year does not offer much respite from what we have had to endure as a result of the global pandemic. Restrictions are still in place on who we can mix with, where we go can, and how close we can be to people. We still wear our masks and keep our distance.

I don’t think these measures are out of proportion (at times I have felt that they haven’t been enough), but I am feeling the strain. I miss my non-nesting partner, Paul, so much. It feels like our relationship has been on hold for the past 9 months, with limited chances to spend meaningful time in each other’s company. I miss spending time with my sister and her children. I miss spending more than fleeting moments with my grandfather. I miss meeting friends to play games. I even miss travelling with Michael and Megan to Warhammer World!

Maybe in the latter half of the year, once the COVID-19 vaccine has been distributed to enough people to make a real difference, we can start to have some of these things back. People keep saying Spring, but I’m not pinning my hopes on that. I don’t want to be a pessimist, but I think 6 months is more realistic and I’d rather be surprised at it being sooner, than disappointed if its longer than 3 months.

With new lockdown rules in place here in the UK for at least the next few weeks, I expect my world will continue to feel small and isolated. I am going to try and use this time to foster new habits. I am trying to bring art back into my life, by means of a subscription to https://artful.co.uk. The December to February box contained Inking supplies, and so far I have tried my hand at inking a cosmos flower…

I plan on sharing my successes here…my failings too! Another habit I want to work on is using my blog. I pay for my hosting and domain name – I might as well get full use of it! My high-level goal is to blog at least once a week. If I manage more regular posting, that’s great! If not, then once a week is good enough.
